World Cleanup Day was held on the 21st of September. The Skill Mill was the UK lead for the event, in collaboration with Northumbria University. This year there were over 20 million people involved across 179 countries. Plastic waste made up most of the waste collected in Europe, but this year millions of cigarette butts found their way into trash bags and several countries chose to highlight the prevalence of cigarette butts on our streets and nature.
Cleanups were organised in countries and territories on all continents, and for the UK the event was the biggest yet. Participants included large corporations, local authorities, small businesses, community groups and individuals. We helped to organise over 200 events across the UK, and the feedback we have had so far has been outstanding. To make the event an even bigger success next year, we need all the support we can get with our CrowdFunder Campaign.
